Caledonian Brewery

Edinburgh, 2024

This series is a study of the Caledonian Brewery chimney, a well-known landmark in Gorgie, Edinburgh.

Drawing on the typological approach of Bernd and Hilla Becher and the work of Henri Rivière, I photographed the chimney again and again, paying attention to how its relationship with its surroundings shifted from one view to the next.

The series also reflects on the place's heritage, the people who helped shape Gorgie, and the resilience of both.

It was made during a short course in digital photography at the University of Edinburgh.
